Artist Profile
As well as being born in Wrexham, North Wales, UK it was also where Zoe Ellis-Moore began her professional, artistic journey. Initially studying a BTec National Diploma in Illustration/Graphical Communication at NEWI School of Art and Design, she later went on to achieve a BA (hons) in Fine Art (painting) there too. She has since exhibited in numerous galleries across North Wales, including being chosen twice to exhibit in the North Wales Open Exhibition and being offered a solo exhibition which was held at Oriel Dafydd Hardy, Caernarfon.
In addition to being a professional artist, Zoe is also a carer for her autistic son and currently balances her art career around his needs. She teaches part time community art classes and art workshops as well as taking on regular commissions. In addition to this, Zoe likes to put time aside to develop her personal fine art practice.
ARTISTS STATEMENT
I am primarily an oil painter but also enjoy using charcoal to draw with due to its versatility. I prefer using mediums that can be easily manipulated during the creative process and find that traditional methods of oil painting work best for me. There is nearly always an abstract or psychological narrative in my work and my aim is to sensitively capture that which is not immediately obvious but nevertheless 'there'. In other words, it involves the forging of a deep, spiritual connection and empathy for my subject matter in order to gain an unseen understanding. This is then acknowledged and brought into being via creative intent and application. It is for this reason that my practice is often centred around a love of animals, people, nature or the organic; that which lives or has lived.
