ARTISTS STATEMENT

I am primarily an oil painter but also enjoy using charcoal to draw with due to its versatility. I prefer using mediums that can be easily manipulated during the creative process and find that traditional methods of oil painting work best for me. The inspiration behind my artwork nearly always stems from an emotional response such as great empathy, gratitude, sorrow or joy for example. Responding creatively to such stimuli comes much more naturally to me than verbalising about it, thus my creative practice enables and encourages a safe space for self expression and reflection. I have a very strong, spiritual connection to this life and the next, so it is for this reason that my practice is often centred around a love of animals, people, nature or the organic; that which lives or has lived.
